Choose the form in context.
A pyramid skylight has a raised profile rather than a single flat glazed plane. Show its relationship to the surrounding roof, nearby walls and the room beneath it. The visible roof form and the internal daylight opening should be considered together.
Atlite describes equal-sided and elongated pyramid configurations, with single or double glazing and clear, opal or tinted choices. The available configuration must be confirmed for your proposed dimensions.
Think about the whole roof.
A roof plan helps show where water must travel around the opening. A section shows the mounting arrangement, product height and lightwell depth. Include nearby roof junctions and any equipment or services that constrain the position.
Glazing and internal comfort
Discuss orientation, views of the sky, privacy, glare and heat gain. Ask for the glass specification and relevant system performance information. The effect in the room also depends on opening position, shaft geometry and the surrounding building; a glazing label alone cannot predict the finished result.
A useful pyramid skylight brief
- Equal-sided or elongated concept, with a dimensioned sketch
- Proposed footprint, height and ceiling opening
- Roof plan, section, covering and measured pitch
- Glazing priorities and preferred finish
- Structural design and roof installation responsibilities
- Internal finishing, site access and maintenance arrangements
Raised glazing is not automatically a ventilation or access product. If opening operation is required, explain that need at the first enquiry so the appropriate system can be reviewed.
