Plan the area as a system.
A larger glazed roof is more than an oversized individual skylight. Panel layout, supporting structure, frame lines and the connection to the surrounding roof need to work together. Begin with a roof plan and a section showing the space below.
Atlite describes Gazbar systems for larger glazed areas, with aluminium or steel framing and glazing choices. Ask which frame and glass combination suits your design; the final panel arrangement and supports are specific to the project.
Describe the intended space.
Explain how the room will be used and where people will sit or work. Include orientation and adjacent glazing. A broad glazed area needs a deliberate conversation about daylight distribution, glare, heat gain and light control rather than simply maximising glass area.
Coordinate before dimensions are fixed.
Share structural information and any constraints from existing beams, walls, services or roof junctions. Confirm how product dimensions relate to the structural opening. Larger components also need a delivery and lifting plan that suits the site.
What to establish with your project team
- Extent of glazing and proposed panel layout
- Frame material, finish and structural support
- Glass build-up and relevant system performance
- Roof pitch, drainage and weatherproofing connections
- Delivery, lifting and installation access
- Internal interfaces, maintenance access and handover documents
Performance and warranty
Request current documents for the specified configuration and components. Product warranty terms, glass coverage and installation responsibilities need to be recorded separately in the quote. A warranty mentioned for one component should not be treated as a guarantee for the complete roof project.
